The following titles/descriptions represent sample presentation topics offered by Career Services. Please note, that each presentation topic can be tailored to meet your needs of your class and students.
Career Development 101
Students are now enrolled in classes and know what they need to be academically successful, now it is time to jump start their career development. This presentation will help students realize the importance of putting an action plan together for their career success. We will touch on various subjects that include: internships, transferable skills, work experience and skill sets.
Marketing Tools
A resume and cover letter are the first and most important pieces about a potential candidate that an employer sees. Students will learn to go beyond the basics to develop written communication about them to reach the next step, the interview.
Job Fair Success
Many students do not know what a career fair is or how beneficial they are to all students regardless of major. The value for both the employer and the student increases when participants are prepared. In this presentation students will learn what employers are looking for in their appearance, communication skills to market themselves and follow-up procedures.
What Can I do With a Major in…..?
This presentation is great for any gateway classes for students just entering the major. In this presentation students will learn what areas they will be able to use their abilities when they complete their degree at the University. The steps that are necessary to be successful in the process will be covered so students can start planning for their future.
Interviewing Strategies
Students will interview like professionals after discussing interviewing dos and don’ts. We will cover both aspects of interviewing, verbal and nonverbal communication. Students will learn how to be confident, proper preparation and how to succeed at interviewing.
Professionalism
Students will learn the art of being a professional in all walks of life-work, play, volunteering, etc. Professional strategies will be discussed and students will begin thinking about making the transition from college life to work life. |
