Brief Biography of Dr. Hartman

Dr. E. Alan Hartman, professor of management, has been a member of the UW Oshkosh faculty since 1976. Prior to being appointed Interim Provost in 2008, he held other administrative positions including Dean of the College of Business, Associate Dean of the College of Business, Acting Assistant Chancellor in the Division of Continuing Education and Chair of the Faculty Development Board. Hartman has been awarded a John McNaughton Rosebush University Professorship as well as an Endowment for Excellence, two of the highest University faculty awards.

Dr. Hartman received his Ph.D. and M.A. at Michigan State University and his B.A. degree at UW Madison in quantitative social psychology. His areas of special interest and research are organizational innovation and family business issues.

He has been awarded more than $1,000, 000 in grants and contracts during his tenure at UW Oshkosh, has published over 25 articles in professional journals and presented papers at over 50 national and international conferences. Dr. Hartman was instrumental in establishing the Office of Entrepreneurship at UW Oshkosh and helped develop the Wisconsin Family Business Forum. He began efforts to provide greater opportunities for working students seeking a business degree in a partnership with Kimberly-Clark Corporation. In 1998 under his
leadership, the University opened the Center for Community Partnerships -- a one-stop access point for University and community expertise -- part of the Wisconsin idea of a university without walls.Hartman consults for small businesses to nonprofits to Fortune 100 firms through the UW Oshkosh Center for Community Partnerships.
